“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is
not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”-Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Mandela Day is a global call to bring the people around the world together to fight poverty and promote peace. It is an annual International day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on July 18, Mandela’s birthday. Students of Grade 6 began the Assembly with the chanting of Gayatri Mantra followed by a beautiful thought that had come from Nelson Mandela himself. “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.” They all vowed that they will not be afraid of failures and will strive to become risk takers, doers, and achievers. They also presented a skit with placards depicting various excerpts from his life. Students were sensitized to be patient, courageous and more tolerant. They also presented a beautiful song conveying the message of peace and harmony. Everyone took a pledge to make this world a better place to live and not let the sacrifices of this great man go in vain.
